Our very young children have the opportunity to explore sand and water activities and use age appropriate physical development equipment. Navigators and Inventors also have a space to play and explore with large shady trees to provide shade on hot days and a great place to build dens. All children are encouraged and supported to plant and tend to our flowers and vegetable plots they also have a wonderful flourishing herb garden.
Children have three areas firstly our top garden with our physical activity equipment our garden growing plots and a lovely grassed space for lots of fun. We still have some work to do on our growing plot area. A mud kitchen, bug hotel, sand pit and some shady areas are also being developed.
The Nursery Manager and Nursery Deputy both hold a NVQ3 in Early Years and NVQ3 Leadership and Management. She has over 32 years of experience of working in nurseries. Staff are all qualified to a Level 2 or Level 3 in Early Years, some working towards higher levels of qualification, qualified at Degree Level.
We are strongly committed to children being competent and confident learners with secure skills for life and continuously use routine and activities to support this e.g. children setting the table at meal times being involved in preparation for nappy changing, dressing for outdoors etc.
At every mealtime in the setting practitioners encourage children to prepare the tables and sit with the children to support independence, model manners and language, promote social skills and explain the importance of a healthy diet and the impact that foods have on our bodies. We are extremely proud of the fact that our meal times have been showcased by the local authority as a model of good practice.
All children who attend our setting, including children with SEN/Additional Needs make good progresses in relation to their starting points. Our rigorous process for identifying starting points and supporting monitored leaning and development across all areas of the curriculum support us to achieve this and we are constantly reflecting on ways in which this can be improved.
