Spring The Levels awarded a “GOOD” by Ofsted

Another day, another GOOD for Spring Nurseries, this time our wonderful Spring The Levels Nursery is in the spotlight. The setting and the team were inspected on the 7th of June 2024 and here are some of the lovely things the report had to say:

  • Children respond happily to the friendly, welcoming staff and often go to them for spontaneous cuddles. Staff give a reassuring, caring approach, helping children settle easily in their care.

  • Staff skilfully follow children’s lead in play. For example, children thoroughly enjoy a favourite story about a caterpillar. They have fun dressing up as a caterpillar and act out the story. Children show fascination as they see how caterpillar larvae develop into a chrysalis. They show interest learning about the life cycle of the caterpillar and recall from the story how this will grow into a butterfly.

  • Staff encourage children’s communication and language very well. Children eagerly use their language to express their ideas. For example, they talk about the colours of the strips of pepper they have for a snack. They are confident to tell a visitor about their favourite colours. Staff reinforce the sounds and words that babies and toddlers start to make and encourage them to form simple two and three word sentences.

  • Staff continue to assess potential risks within the environment and teach children how to keep themselves and others safe, such as when using the climbing equipment. Staff deploy themselves well to support children’s care and learning. For example, at mealtimes they sit with the children and encourage their good manners and social skills.

We spoke with the team over at Spring Levels and here is what they had to say about the report:

As a team at Spring The Levels, we are thrilled to share that we received a good judgement on our recent Ofsted inspection, and it’s all thanks to the hard work and dedication of our staff. We are commitment to creating a child-led learning environment and this has led to positive outcomes for the children in our care.

Eight months ago, our team came together as a new unit, and since then, we have been dedicated to developing the nursery and implementing a child-led curriculum, which allows children to explore and learn through their interests and curiosity.

We are proud that the Ofsted inspection praised our broad curriculum, noting that “Staff provide a broad curriculum that builds on what children know and can do. They help all children, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), to make good progress. Children enjoy their play and show curiosity in learning. Staff skilfully follow children’s lead in play.”

The inspectors also observed that children at Spring The Levels are happy, engaged, and making good progress in their learning and development. They particularly highlighted our staff’s encouragement of children’s communication and language skills.

As a new team, we are excited to build on this report and see what the next steps are for us as a setting, to deliver the best outcomes for the families we work with.
